Karn Santikul, DPT, COMT, CSCS – Director

Karn Santikul, DPT, COMT, CSCS, CKTP is a graduate from Columbia University with his Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. Karn’s focus is in sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation. With his vision and desire, he opened NY Sports and Spinal Physical Therapy in Scarsdale in February 2008 and since then has added the Bronx office opened in July 2010 in the Pelham Bay area.

His approach to physical therapy is eclectic and pragmatic in that he draws from a number of different approaches to formulate the best plan of care. The result is a highly individualized course of therapy for each patient. Karn has worked previously at Summit Physical Therapy in Larchmont and Recovery Physical Therapy in the Bronx prior to starting NYSSPT. In addition, his completed clinical rotations at Columbia University have included affiliations at White Plains Hospital, St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, and Australian Physiotherapy in Manhattan. His completed group research thesis on VMO Strengthening was presented in New Orleans at the annual Physical Therapy’s Combined Section Meetings in February 2005.

Karn’s has focused on the Geoffrey Maitland approach and is certified in Orthopedic Manual Therapy by the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who works with Athletes on Performance Enhancement. He continues to grow as a clinician and is now practicing Kinesio Taping as a manual/hands on therapist.

Lacey Berger

Lacey Berger, DPT completed her undergraduate coursework at The University of Michigan and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Movement Science. She graduated from Columbia University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2012. Lacey is excited to join the staff after completing a clinical internship with Karn at NYSSPT earlier this year. Lacey’s other clinical experience includes rotations at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, and Jamaica Hospital. While at Columbia, she took elective and advanced coursework in rehabilitation of the ankle and foot, wrist and hand, and adult neurologic conditions.

She is also an avid runner and has completed many road races including a half marathon. She will be competing in her first triathlon in September 2012.

Karl Rusch, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC

Karl Rusch, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC completed his undergraduate coursework from Quinnipiac University with a bachelor’s of science in Athletic Training/ Sport’s Medicine. Karl graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2012 with his Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. Karl’s focus is in sports medicine and orthopaedic rehabilitation. Karl is a full time assistant professor at Dominican College, and came to NYSSPT to continue to his desire in working with various pre and post- operative injuries.

Karl is an evidence based practitioner utilizing current research to design a plan of care that best fits the individual’s needs. Each individual’s program is designed in a cooperative effort to reach your desired goals. Karl has previously worked at Premier Physical therapy and Professional Physical therapy in Katonah, NY, and as a lab instructor at New York Medical College. Karl has also completed clinical affiliations at NYU, Beth Abraham health services in the Bronx, and Amfit Physical Therapy.

Karl is a board Certified Orthopaedic Specialist and focuses on a variety of manual therapy techniques with appropriate therapeutic exercise. Karl is also a Certified Athletic Trainer who specializes in sport specific injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Karl is married with no kids, and lives in Westchester County.

Terry Hwang, DPT, OCS, SFMA, CEAS

Terry has been practicing physical therapy for 17 years. She received her Master’s degree from New York Medical College (2000) and her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Southern California (2006). Over the last 15 years, she has specialized in restoring movement and functional performance in individuals with musculoskeletal disorders and has earned a Specialist Certification in Orthopedics (OCS) from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

Dr. Hwang has taught in the USC doctoral level physical therapy program and is currently an adjunct clinical instructor in New York Medical College’s DPT program.  Her background consists of training in joint manipulation/mobilization, pain control and kinesiotaping to correct and improve movement. She is SFMA certified, as well as a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist through the Back School of Atlanta, providing on-site assessments and recommendations on design, function and work factors. Her focus is on restoring mobility and strength through a variety of manual therapy techniques and functional/sports-specific exercises, helping her patients get back to their highest level of function.

Steven Scotton – Director of Operations

Steven Scotton

Steven Scotton is the Director of Operations of NY Sports and Spinal Physical Therapy in Scarsdale. He performs many of NYSSPT administration tasks including overseeing all operations in both the Bronx and Scarsdale offices. After completing his undergraduate degree in business administration from Iona College, Steven decided to continue his dedication in helping NYSSPT grow and reach the potential of a successful clinic. Steven has been instrumental in helping institute our billing system and training staff on the use of it. His responsibilities have included daily billing transactions, filing medical claims, and data entry to mention a few. For leisure, Steven enjoys playing softball, weightlifting, and soccer.

Katy Simms – Patient Coordinator

 Katy Simms is a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a degree in Psychology. She aspires to continue her education in business. She is a creative problem solver who enjoys assisting, supporting, and promoting people in general. Katy is here to help those potential patients who need more information about what physical therapy is and is our liaison to help patients get that information. She creates successful solutions by utilizing extensive experience in all aspects of marketing working for past small businesses.

Angelea Epino – Certified Personal Trainer

 Angelea Epino is a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a degree in Psychology. She aspires to continue her education in physical therapy. She currently holds a personal training degree from the American Council on Exercise. She hopes to inspire, motivate, and educate others on their paths to creating healthier, stronger lifestyles. She is ready to get you to your health and fitness goals!
 

Stefanie Pollard – Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Sports Nutritionist

Stefanie Pollard is a graduate from SUNY Cortland. Currently she has a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and is obtaining her Masters Degree in Exercise Science at Long Island University. She is a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and well as a Certified Sports Nutrition through the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN). Stefanie is an advocate for the body, not for those six pack abs, but an advocate for bettering your body as a whole. If you are determined enough to do so, so will she be!

Nathan Anderson – Certified Personal Trainer

Nathan Anderson is a graduate of  the College of Brockport State University of New York. He aspires to continue his education in physical therapy. He currently holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology. He also is a personal trainer and has a certification of Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (C-EP ACSM). Nathan is an advocate for pain free movement via correct form and execution. He is ready to get you to your health and fitness goals!
 

Courtney Febus – Administrative Assistant

 Courtney Febus is the Administrative Assistant. She wears many ‘hats’ for New York Sports and Spinal Therapy in Scarsdale. She is the face of our office when you first walk in and has a reputation for making everyone feel welcome with her smile and personality. She specializes in communication with others and dedicated to finding out information for patients needed to be seen and is most effective in accommodating the needs of every individual. She has accomplished running her first half marathon 2015. In her idle hours, she enjoys reading, running in the trails, boxing and composing music.
